Program Description:
Welcome to the faculty application to lead a WSU Ambassador Program.Susan C

An Ambassador Program is a short term, faculty led, study abroad program.   Ambassador Programs are usually 1-3 weeks long, with about 10 students per faculty member.   These programs must have a corresponding class that is primarily taught while abroad and is typically 3.0 credit hours long, though exceptions apply.

Any WSU faculty member is encouraged to apply.  All applications are required to go though an approval process to determine their acceptance.

A complete application includes the following:
  1. Description of the program including academic class
  2. Estimated day by day itinerary
  3. Estimated budget using UCIE required budget worksheet
  4. Approval signatures from relevant department Chair and Dean

Faculty are highly encouraged to come and speak with the UCIE study abroad team to help build a successful application.

The study abroad team at the UCIE is committed to making study abroad a rewarding, educational and safe experience for as many students as possible.  We appreciate your interest and dedication in creating an Ambassador Program at Wright State University.  Please don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions about this process.

Testimonials from WSU Faculty:
krishna
“WSU Ambassador Programs are faculty designed and led and provide unparalleled learning experiences for students, many of whom would not otherwise have the opportunity to travel abroad. Several of my students told me that the program was life-changing for them. To watch students grow in response to international study is one of the most rewarding experiences I can imagine as an educator."
-Caroline Hillard, PhD  - Ambassador Program to Italy, 2016,  "Masterpieces of Italian Art and Architecture"

"Organizing an Ambassador Program requires a lot of time and effort. But when you succeed, when you see your students’ enjoyment while learning your course material this way - it is an enormously gratifying experience.
In my program a diverse group of students including psychology, biology, and chemistry majors traveled abroad in order to collaborate with an international team of researchers, conducted field research, and gathered data as part of a course objective to observe, study, and better understand animal behavior. The trip engendered a profound respect for science conducted by an international team out in the field, something most students have never experienced."
                                    - Michal Kraszpulski, PhD - Ambassador Program to Poland, 2016, "Researching and Observing Animal Behavior"

"Besides visiting famous cities and learning Chinese language in a college setting, the Chinese Ambassador Program provides a unique opportunity for our students to teach English to a group of Chinese students from the remote mountain areas and work closely with them to complete several cultural projects.   Students stated overwhelmingly that this service learning component was the highlight of the trip and a life-changing experience.  They not only made lifelong friends, but the experience gave them a new appreciation for what they have and a clearer vision of what they want to accomplish in the future."
