Health and Safety Abroad
Your well-being is our top priority as you embark on your study abroad journey. We understand that health and safety are significant concerns for students and their families. Whether you're traveling across the globe or exploring a neighboring country, we're committed to providing you with the resources, support, and information you need to stay safe and healthy during your time abroad.

Pre-Departure Preparation

Before you embark on your study abroad experience, we ensure you are well-prepared for any health and safety challenges. Our pre-departure orientation sessions cover essential topics such as:

✈ Health Insurance: Understanding your coverage abroad and how to access medical care.
✈ Emergency Procedures: Knowing what to do in case of emergencies, including who to contact and where to go for assistance.
✈ Travel Advisories: Staying informed about travel advisories, local laws, and cultural norms in your host country.
✈ Health and Vaccinations: Learning about any required or recommended vaccinations and health precautions specific to your destination.
✈ Safety Tips: Practical advice on staying safe while traveling, including tips for navigating unfamiliar environments and avoiding potential risks.

Additional Pre Departure Health Tips:

✈ Visit your doctor before departure to ensure you are in good health and determine if any vaccinations are needed.
✈ Ensure you have enough prescription medicine for your trip, stored in their original containers. Confirm that this medication is legal in your host country. If not, obtain a letter from your doctor explaining the medical need.
✈ If you have a medical condition (e.g., diabetes, allergies), bring a medical alert tag, bracelet, or card identifying the condition and carry it at all times.
✈ Stay hydrated and move around during your flight to maintain good circulation.

On-Site Support
Once you arrive at your destination, our dedicated staff and local partners are here to support you throughout your study abroad experience.

Your Responsibilities
While we are committed to providing the necessary support and resources, your safety also depends on your proactive participation and awareness.

✈ Keep in Touch: Maintain regular communication with your designated contacts, both at home and abroad, and inform them of your whereabouts.
✈ Trust Your Instincts: If you ever feel unsafe or uncomfortable, trust your instincts and remove yourself from the situation if possible.

Additional Resources
In addition to the support provided by the UCIE study abroad team and our partners, the following resources can help you stay safe and healthy while abroad:
